The Outremer 42 is the last catamaran designed by Gérard Danson, founder of the Outremer Workshop in La Grande-Motte. He never saw the first copy touch the water. Built in only ten copies between 2005 and 2008, the 42 is now a rare piece on the second-hand market. IVALA, formerly Kalo Taxidi, is the No.2 hull in the series. It has mainly sailed in the Mediterranean, about three months a year, and has always wintered dry. Its hulls received a Coppercoat antifouling in 2025.

With this model, Danson wanted to keep the soul of Outremer and add something to live on board for months. We find the thin hulls, the sharp bows, the drifts and a mast of 17.70 m. The volumes are more generous, the nacelle is high and clear of the water, and the boat accepts the load better. It is also one of the first Outremer built by infusion, with polyester sandwich linings, a gelcoat and vinylester resin in the bottoms to protect the boat from osmosis. The specialist press greeted him as soon as he came out. Multihulls Mag and Voiles et Voiliers speak of a "real sailboat", comfortable and voluntary. It passes through the chop without tapping, rises to 45 or 50° of the real wind at more than 9 knots and spins at an average of 11 knots through, with peaks beyond 15 knots on the doorstep.

IVALA is in four double cabins, with two bathrooms. This is an ideal setup for a family or to navigate with friends. We step from the cockpit into the square. The height under the bar exceeds 1.90 m, the light enters through a wide bay window and the card table looks forward. The mattresses, two per cabin, are in very good condition. The cushions of the square were redone in 2025 and those of the cockpit in 2022.

On the sailing side, the North Sails 3Di mainsail dates from 2020. It comes with a recent lazy bag and fully replaced lazy jacks in 2023. The Profurl self-steering solent on reel makes the boat very simple to lead with a reduced crew. The 65 m² gennaker is on Facnor storage, at the end of the building. The bastaques were changed in 2026 and an electric Ewincher, installed in 2022, facilitates maneuvers.

The boat is ready for autonomy. The four Victron solar panels (2020) power a Bosch 3 x 180 Ah utility park, renewed in 2024. There is a portable Honda unit and a 60 L/h Dessalator, which has only 190 hours and comes with two new replacement membranes. The edge has 400 litres of fresh water, a water heater, a built-in Dometic refrigerator and a large independent 88 litre Dometic refrigerator (both 2021). The two Yanmar 3YM30 29 hp, regularly maintained, drive Flexofold folding propellers, with 2 x 154 liters of diesel.

For navigation, IVALA has Raymarine ST60 electronics with autopilot, Furuno radar and GPS, as well as an AIS Digital Yacht AIT3000 unit. On the anchorage side, it is equipped with 80 metres of chain.

IVALA is for sailors who want a real fast, healthy and marine cruising catamaran, for a controlled budget. It's more agile than a 45-foot in anchorages and ports, and cheaper to maintain. It has Outremer DNA, the drawing of a great architect and a regularly maintained inventory.
